WE HAVE POTTY TRAINED BUG!!!
(If you want to hear about the drama read on, if not skim to the end and help with my last remaining questions!)
I have felt like he was probably ready for several months, and I tried before the holidays, but by mid morning I felt like I was missing some vital information so I put it off to ask more questions. My father potty trained my siblings and I and said he did it in a single day, and that was how I wanted it to be. Well once the idea got in my head it didn't leave or give me a rest so I thought about it often and tried on a few more days, but always felt like I still didn't have enough info.
Finally I was introduced to a 3 day method, but before that came I ventured into the potty training section of the library. I picked up 3 different books thinking at least one of them had to have some good information, and the method I most wanted to focus on (getting done fast and efficiently). In skimming those books and then the 3 day method (which was closest to how I personally feel about potty training) I realized there were a few things we needed to change. I knew I had allowed a couple of really bad habits to creep in, like allowing Bug to sleep with a cup of milk, but I didn't realize allowing him to carry around a glass of milk all day would effect our progress as well. So we had to take away the night milk altogether and then pulled way back on the milk during the day. Then I just wanted to get going. So I started the "3 day" method on Monday. Between having outside appointments, Baba with me at all times and Bug's stubborn nature nothing seemed to clicked, by Friday I was getting panicky that we would be living with accidents for months, if not years. But things started working better Saturday, he stayed dry most of Sunday and starting telling us "potty" a little sooner than the wet running down his leg. Yesterday everything CLICKED!!! He told me every time he needed to use the potty with enough time to run up the stairs, get the pants pulled down and sit on the potty. Our only accident at home was in the evening when he could decide which parent to tell, so didn't tell either of us, just ran back and forth between the kitchen and the living room several times.
Today we haven't had any accidents and I even got brave enough to let him wear pants again (it is pretty cold to run around in only underwear and a t-shirt.
I personally am really excited to have him out of diapers, even if it has meant I now have to figure out (again) how to take a shower during the day.
QUESTIONS:
He's been terrified of going into public, I don't know if he's worry about having an accident or having to use the restroom, how do I help with those transitions?
(he's never liked public restrooms, even as a baby, if I had to change a diaper in a bathroom he would holler and scream the entire time)
Do travel potty liners really help?
