keeping creative

One of the many things that I still struggle with in the kitchen is making beautiful pie crust. I stress out a little when I need to make a pie, so when I saw a picture of this pie I decided that I could make it and be happy with the result. It was very pretty when it was all done and not all that difficult to make.

I am currently in a state of mind (i have probably said this before) that I want to work on my culinary skills and try some new things. This year was gingerbread houses. Last year I bought one of those kits and hated the whole process, so I decided then that this year I would make my own from scratch and this and that. Well I still had this idea in my head when the activities commitee for the ward decided that they wanted to have gingerbread houses so I volunteered my services to make a few (five exactly).

I had a few tough moments and definite thoughts that I might be crazy, (during my first and trial run) but by the time I got the last one put together I was feeling good, I still have a few things to work on, but I enjoyed the process. These little houses, or chalets, were pretty simple, there aren't even 4 walls, but I really want to venture out into the big house and lots of fun stuff. I don't know if I'll get it done for this year, but this is my little village that we used for our party and gave away to some of the widows.

As you can see I didn't use much candy, but I prefer it that way.

Those turned out really well. I think they are darling. I bet they received rave reviews.
