VACATION- FINALLY

DAY 1

We have begun our first official vacation since the boys were born. We are going on a ten day road trip, starting from our home in Salt Lake City, we will traverse the central US to arrive in Olathe, KS (where my sister lives) and then we will head a little south to land in Hoehne, CO (where long time friends live).

We cheated a little by starting last night and making a very short leg to my parents house in Manila, UT. We got there late, and the kiddos stayed up later, but we still got on the road in a nice timely fashion this morning. We are trying to make this a fun vacation for all of us, we all need it, and so we are trying to take it slow. Stop and play when needed and basically go with the flow rather than worry about time frames and destinations. The children did really well today, they all took good naps in the morning (after not sleeping most of the night this was much appreciated). When we stopped for lunch we chose Sinclair, WY, yes as in the gas refinery, and found a small park near the railroad tracks and we let the boys out to play on the playground and stretch their legs. While I fed the baby and then we all ate our quick lunch and headed back on the road.

(this would have been her first swing, but they weren't really baby friendly so we only got the picture, too bad).
An old Union Pacific train engine in the park.

Over all the trip went very smoothly, we tried to keep the boys occupied with various changes of entertainment, and I will admit by the last leg of the trip I was very glad we had borrowed my parents portable DVD player, the movie was mesmerizing.

We are staying in Sidney, NE, home to Cabela's. Our hotel is right next door, so we took a little walk and went browsing, then we walked by the goose pond on our way to dinner. The boys wanted to chase the geese and maybe even take a swim, and the store was probably their worst behavior of the day, but we made it through and now we are ready for bed (or the little ones are already a sleep).

I will just say that the little miss is with us and really there isn't much to report, she has had her moments for crying when we couldn't stop fast enough to suit her fancy, but over all she traveled like a pro.

I will try to post every day or so of our trip depending on connection availability.
