5K

I have been training to run the Ragnar Relay- Wasatch Back. It is a relay covering about 240 miles over the back mountains of Utah from Logan to Park City. It has been a bucket list thing for me for several years, but I have never considered myself a "runner". I love walking, can cover long distances, but I am not FAST. However, the opportunity to set up this team happened, and I took the leap. I started diligently training back in December, and my first "run" went something like this: Get on the treadmill, warm up, speed up run five steps/ 30 seconds, can't breathe, stop catch my breath, return to the treadmill, walk, repeat. Those first "runs" were so overwhelming I really thought I might be crazy and totally unfair to any team that took me on.  Well 6 months later, I am still not a "real runner", but I can run about 20 minutes without stopping, I can speed walk when I need the breathing break and I am actually beginning to enjoy the process. Well with all that, I decided I should at least run a 5k before I took on the relay, and see how I did.

It was raining, and cold, I didn't know anyone, but I ran and felt pretty good about my first time. I got confused about the coarse and so I paced myself slower than I needed too, but with all that. I came in 68, over all, I know there were at least 150 people running. As I said my pace was a little slower than I want it to be, but I can keep working on that. I had a great time, and look forward to the bigger challenge.
These are at the end of the race, A brought the kiddos to cheer me on at the end (although all they wanted to do was play on the play ground).
