On Monday, July 27th we arrived in Haines, AK our final destination for the ferry. We had to do a little laundry, pack up our cabins and we got off the ferry around 10:00 am. It was raining a little bit so we drove around town. Haines is where my parents lived for several years, so they had a few haunts that they wanted to see again. We ran into a few of their friends and visited. Everyone wanted to eat at their favorite restuarant that serves really really good "fish and chips". We did all these things, while we waited for the rain to stop. It didn't...
We drove out to Chilkoot Lake, looked for bears and moose, but nothing was out in the rain.

Camping at Chilkat in the rain.
It was our first night on our adventure and we had always planned on camping as much as we can. Plus when we had looked up rooms in the Haines area every room was expensive, so even though it was raining we braved it. Everyone got soaked. My parents rain fly wasn't quite big enough for an actual rain storm and our seams leaked, especially at the bottom. Luckily the kids didn't sleep on their pillows and pushed them up into the tent wall where they collected most of the water. The pillows got thrown away, but everything else stayed mostly dry. This set the weather for most of the trip. But luckily we never got that wet again while sleeping.
